Desperate Housewives is a comedy drama series which premiered on the ABC Network on 3rd October 2004. The series is created by Marc Cherry and co-produced by ABC Studios and Cherry Productions. The series has appreciated by the critics and has turned out to be a huge success not only amongst female audiences but has a huge fan following amongst males as well. The series has successfully completed its four seasons and is currently running in its fifth season. Till date a total of ninety eight episodes of the series have been aired.
Desperate Housewives tv show revolves around the lives of a group of housewives who are living in the suburban town of Fairview. The series chronicles the happenings in the lives of these friends, as seen from the eyes of one of the Mary Alice who commits suicide at the very start of the series. As the friends try to deal with the problems as well as the romances in their life it is revealed that behind the closed doors of these seemingly ordinary looking housewives life is not what it appears to be. Every time a new mystery is unfolded it brings new twist to events which make the lives of these suburban women take a funny and dark turn.
The series is set in the street of Wisteria Lane, in the fictional town of Fairview. The residents include Susan Mayer a divorcee responsible for raising her teenage daughter, Julie. She is also looking for dream man who might turn out to be her neighbor Mike Delfino. Lynette Scavo has four children and has become a career woman after being a housewife for many years, to help her husband Tom in starting their own pizzeria. Bree Van De Kamp is a typical housewife who hides the pain of losing her husband Rex behind her calm exterior. She is struggling with her second marriage to Orson Hodge and is also trying to raise her rebellious children, Danielle and Andrew. Gabrielle Solis was a successful model and had an equally successful husband, Carlos but now she is divorced, and has to learn to live on her own. To round up the group, there is the self made Edie Britt a successful real estate agent whose love life tops the gossip list.
Mary Alice keeps a watch on every move of her former neighbors and even their hardest efforts to keep a secret locked behind closed doors does not prevent even the tiniest bit of gossip from being ignored. The series which has been a rage among the audiences has been nominated for at least 102 different awards over the past four years including four Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. It has also won three Golden Globe and two Emmy Awards besides winning thirty two other awards.
